Tiffin Sandwiches Bolsters Growth with Acquisition of Love Bites
Bradford-based food-to-go manufacturer Tiffin Sandwiches has acquired wholesale sandwich producer Love Bites in a deal that underscores its ambition for growth, sustainability, and community impact.
Tiffin confirmed the purchase of Love Bites for an undisclosed sum and revealed plans for significant investment into the company’s 10,000 sq ft factory. The focus will be on upgrading machinery and infrastructure, enabling more efficient production processes while embedding environmentally friendly practices throughout the facility.
In a statement, Tiffin said the investment aims to foster a culture of sustainability and align with its vision for responsible business practices.
Honouring a Legacy, Protecting Jobs
Love Bites, one of the United Kingdom’s longest-serving independent wholesale sandwich producers, was founded in 1991 by husband-and-wife duo Richard and Gill Smith. Over more than three decades, the pair have built a strong reputation for quality and reliability in the sector.
As part of the deal, all Love Bites employees will be retained, with Richard Smith continuing on in the business. Tiffin emphasised that the experience and commitment of Love Bites’ staff are invaluable and that their continued employment and growth within the wider organisation are a priority.
The company paid tribute to Richard and Gill Smith for their instrumental role in shaping the brand, with Tiffin highlighting Richard’s “invaluable industry experience” as a key factor in guiding future success.
Growth Momentum
This acquisition adds to a string of bold moves from Tiffin in recent months. In April, the business snapped up fellow sandwich producer PJ Foods, and last year announced plans for a new 50,000 sq ft manufacturing site in Bradford, adjacent to its existing Commondale Way facility.
The £10 million project has been approved by Bradford Council and is expected to create up to 400 new jobs once complete, strengthening the company’s position as a leading employer in the city.
Sector on the Rise
Tiffin’s expansion comes amid a wave of activity across the bakery and food-to-go sector. May saw Around Noon open a new factory in Slough, while earlier this month, Kingsmill’s parent company completed its acquisition of rival bread brand Hovis.
The sector appears to be entering a new phase of consolidation and investment, as businesses race to modernise operations and capture a greater share of the growing convenience food market.
Looking Ahead
For Tiffin, the acquisition of Love Bites is about more than growth. By investing in sustainability, retaining experienced staff, and engaging with the local community, the business is signalling its intent to build responsibly and contribute to the wider Bradford economy.
With a strong pipeline of projects and a clear commitment to innovation, Tiffin Sandwiches is positioning itself as a key player in shaping the future of the UK’s food-to-go industry.
