Victor Pizza Doubles Production with New Coatbridge Factory
A beloved Scottish family business with humble beginnings is entering a bold new chapter. Victor Pizza, best known for turning a chip shop novelty into a national favourite, is expanding its operations with a move to a larger site in Coatbridge.
The relocation will double production capacity, create 17 new jobs, and fuel the next phase of growth for the £5 million business.
Founded in the 1970s as a modest family-run bakery in Glasgow, Victor Pizza has evolved into a respected name in the UK’s food production industry. Its story began with a quirky request from a local Italian chip shop owner: could they make a pizza suitable for frying?
That unusual challenge sparked the creation of Pizza Fritto – now a staple on chip shop menus across Scotland, affectionately known as pizza crunch.
Today, Victor Pizza continues to innovate while holding firm to its family values. Supported by a seven-figure funding package from Bank of Scotland, the company is relocating from its 12,000 sq ft premises in Possilpark, Glasgow, to a new 24,500 sq ft facility in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. The upgraded site is set to transform the company’s operations.
The move brings with it significant benefits: production capacity will more than double, 17 new employees will join the business – increasing the team to 54 – and new product lines will be introduced, including High Protein Pizzas, Pizza Wraps, and Mini Buffet Pizza Bites.
These additions reflect the brand’s commitment to evolving with consumer tastes while keeping quality at the core.
Victor Pizza’s innovation extends beyond indulgent treats. In recent years, the business has focused on creating healthier pizzas, collaborating with Donnie Maclean from Scottish food brand Eat Balanced.
With input from nutrition experts at the University of Glasgow, the result was a multi-award-winning pizza made with iodine-rich seaweed, a prebiotic fibre base, and a vitamin-rich red pepper paste in the sauce. These nutritionally balanced pizzas are now delivered to schools and sports venues across the United Kingdom – offering a healthier alternative without sacrificing taste.
Looking ahead, sustainability is high on the agenda. The new Coatbridge facility is being prepped for solar panel installation, and Victor Pizza is actively working with Scottish Enterprise on initiatives to cut food waste and reduce carbon emissions – underlining their commitment to a greener future.
Reflecting on the company’s growth, Victor Pizza’s co-founder remarked that they have come a long way from frying pizzas in the back of a Glasgow bakery. Today, they are sending out hundreds of pallets across the UK. But they have built more than just a factory – they’ve built a family, and that’s the difference people feel when they work there.
In Conclusion
As Victor Pizza settles into its new home in Coatbridge, it does so with a firm eye on the future – one rooted in innovation, sustainability, and community.
What began as a small Glasgow bakery now stands as a national supplier with heart, heritage, and ambition baked into every slice.
