Baker & Baker Team Up with FareShare to Tackle Food Waste
Hunger and food waste are significant global challenges, and the United Kingdom is not exempt from them. Luckily, there are organisations, such as FareShare, that are dedicated to addressing both of these issues.
FareShare is the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste. Their goal is to collect surplus food that is still good to eat from various sources in the food industry. This food is sorted in warehouses located in different regions, and then distributed to a network of almost 9,500 charities and community groups across the country.
FareShare is a charity organisation that has made a significant impact in the UK. In 2022, they helped thousands of families in need by redistributing food equivalent to 126 million meals, roughly four meals every second, which helped to soften the impact of rising food costs.
By receiving donations from the food industry, FareShare is making sure that the food that would otherwise go to waste is utilised to help those in need. Such donations have included a vast number of bakery products from Baker & Baker.
Baker & Baker has a strong dedication to sustainable business practices, which includes an important focus on decreasing their environmental impact by getting rid of food waste. This commitment has been what has led to a partnership between themselves and FareShare.
Baker & Baker’s partnership allows surplus bakery products from all four of their UK manufacturing sites, located in Bromborough, Ashington, Bradford, and Daventry, to be sent to charities and community groups whenever feasible. The company is also committed to finding partners who can help with distributing food to sites in continental Europe.
Through their partnership with FareShare, Baker & Baker has donated four tonnes of bakery products from their Bradford site to support almost 550 UK charities. In the future, it is their plan to donate more viable products to FareShare, so that they can be redistributed to more charities and community groups. Additionally, this partnership is showcasing one of the ways they are openly implementing sustainable business initiatives in their manufacturing operations.
It certainly is inspiring that FareShare and Baker & Baker are partnering to fight against both food waste and hunger, highlighting how corporations can contribute positively to the betterment of the communities they operate in. It is important to recognize the significant impact of such initiatives, and it is reassuring to know that there are organisations dedicated to creating positive change.
In brief, FareShare is having a big impact on reducing both hunger and food waste in the UK. This organisation has been instrumental in supporting numerous families struggling to cope with the rising cost of food.
The collaboration between FareShare and Baker & Baker showcases how businesses can create a positive influence by joining forces with like minded organisations that share their goals and values. It is greatly hoped that other companies follow Baker & Baker’s lead and partner with organisations like FareShare to create a more sustainable and prosperous future.
