HelloFresh Unveils State-of-the-Art Automated Production Facility

In a grand ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by esteemed guests including UK CEO Adam Park, Pauline Latham OBE MP for Mid Derbyshire, and local dignitaries, HelloFresh proudly inaugurated its latest flagship production facility, ‘The Windmill,’ nestled in the heart of Derby

The sprawling site, spanning over acres of meticulously landscaped grounds, has already infused the local community with approximately 300 job opportunities, with promises of more to come as production gears up in the coming months.

Named in homage to its sustainable ethos and dedication to harnessing renewable energy, The Windmill stands as a beacon of innovation and environmental stewardship. Developed in collaboration with SmartParc SEGRO Derby, the facility is set to become one of the most sustainable production hubs in the country, boasting an array of eco-friendly features.

From rainwater harvesting systems, strategically positioned to capture every precious drop, to a colossal rooftop solar panel array glistening under the Derbyshire sun, The Windmill exemplifies HelloFresh’s unwavering commitment to a greener future.

Furthermore, the site’s architectural design seamlessly integrates sustainability with functionality, featuring a shared heating and cooling system that ingeniously recycles heat from refrigeration plants to warm water and offices across the estate.

Achieving an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating for energy efficiency, The Windmill proudly vows to derive 100% of its energy from renewable sources, setting a commendable precedent for sustainable business practices.

Moreover, the facility’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions extends beyond its walls, with EV charging spaces, local bus services synchronised with production times, and secure bike storage facilities alongside a cycle-to-work scheme, all aimed at minimising the site’s environmental footprint while supporting its workforce.

Moreover, HelloFresh’s dedication extends beyond environmental sustainability to community engagement. The Windmill not only creates employment opportunities but also nurtures partnerships with local charities, like Community Action Derby, exemplifying a corporate ethos rooted in social responsibility.

Today, HelloFresh donates ingredients for more than 100 meals each week to assist those experiencing food insecurity in the local area, embodying its commitment to giving back to the communities it serves.

Speaking at the ceremony, HelloFresh’s UK CEO expressed profound delight in inaugurating the company’s largest and most advanced European distribution centre in Derby. Emphasising the city’s rich tapestry of skilled talent, the CEO underscored the pivotal role Derby plays in HelloFresh’s expansion strategy, lauding its connectivity that enhances the delivery experience for customers across the UK.

Impressively, the significance of The Windmill extends beyond its architectural marvel and technological prowess; it signifies HelloFresh’s unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction and culinary innovation.

The incorporation of cutting-edge automation technology promises a culinary experience tailored to individual preferences, with an array of recipe options and personalised meal choices, including plant-based alternatives and customisable portion sizes.

Furthermore, the facility’s predictive algorithms and inventory management systems ensure fresher ingredients and minimal waste, aligning seamlessly with HelloFresh’s mission to revolutionise meal delivery services.

As the curtains drew on the grand opening ceremony, HelloFresh’s partnership with Derby stands as a testament to the boundless possibilities when innovation, sustainability, and community collaboration converge.

To conclude, the journey ahead certainly holds promises of more growth, innovation, and a shared commitment to shaping a healthier, more sustainable future – one meal at a time.
